THE SRI LANKA COMPUTER DRIVING LICENCE - General Proficiency - (Level I)
is the level of proficiency needed among the general public for technology to have its full impact (eg: searching for information or conducting business on the internet). It also involves proficiency in languages and mathematics.

Therefore, there arose the absolute demand for laying down the minimum technical knowledge & user proficiency that should be possessed by every user, whether he/she is engaged as a full time computer professional or using his/her own computer as a tool for regular work.

Such a standard should perform several functions… it should provide proof of competency in the computer skills akin to the conventional driving license for motor vehicles, provide actual practical ability to use the computer act as a base for further development of skills in line with the advances in computer technology & facilitate the development of both the operator & the computer user (whether that user is one self or someone else).

This is what the Association of Computer Training Organisations (ACTOS) in association with National Apprentices & Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) collectively strives to achieve.

Sri Lanka Computer Driving Licence (SLCDL) is a 110 hour computer application course aimed at equipping office staff & school leavers with basic skills to operate personal computers in practical applications.

A central Authority, the National Apprentices & Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) would carry out testing & certification to ensure uniformity.

It is formulated to cover key aspects of computing. Designed by a panel of computer experts and teachers, the syllabus is constantly updated in keeping with modern IT developments.

Sri Lanka Computer Driving Licence assures the holder that he has the necessary skills to handle a computer with confidence. It will also give proof of competency in the computer skills of potential employees to the employer. The CDL could be a pre qualification which employers can look for, in hiring personnel for computer & IT related jobs.
